  • Proposed process for securing chemotherapy in Côte d'Ivoire

This process started from the contact between Dr KRASSE (Pharmacy Department of CHU-T) and Mr SIALLOU (Pediatric Oncology Unit of CHU-T), in 2013, through the establishment of a discharge form for Anticancer drugs (MAC) donations dedicated to the Pediatric Oncology Unit and then follow-up of their entries and exits by EXCEL (Logistics circuit).

Presented in the form of a table with crosses representing the levels of relative security from one (1) cross to four (4) crosses, it should see a progressive pharmaceutical intervention in the clinical circuit of MAC, particularly during anticancer chemotherapy.
This dream, which begins with children with cancer, should lead to the creation, at the pharmacy outside of the care services, of a Centralized Reconstitution Unit for Chemotherapy (Oncopharma-ci) with chemotherapy software for children and adults with cancer, such as recommends it by the International Society of Oncological Pharmacy Practitioners (SIPPO).

  • Proposal for standardization of IC chemotherapy injection equipment

Scandalized by the facts of administration route errors, in particular between the intravenous (IV) and intrathecal (IT) route reported during training sessions in Oncological Pharmacy, Dr KRASSE suggests the creation by manufacturers of a syringe dedicated to intrathecal injections like the insulin syringe, etc.
He will send letters to manufacturers hoping that this dream will come to fruition for patient safety.

For the time being, to avoid any error in the route, he proposes as a precautionary measure that the bags and the 10cc syringe be reserved for the intravenous (IV) route, the 5cc syringe for the intramuscular (IM) route, the 2cc and 3cc syringes. for the subcutaneous (SC) route and the 1cc syringe for the intrathecal or intrathecal (IT) route.

  • Presentation of EXCEL-EN-CHIMIO FOR CHILDREN

Dr KRASSE presented the CHILDREN'S EXCEL-EN-CHIMIO tool and its benefits.

This tool, which focuses on calculating cancer chemotherapy doses in the form of suggested doses, saves time and energy while avoiding calculation errors which can be fatal for the patient (s). It should allow good organization and good traceability of the follow-up of patients undergoing injectable chemotherapy.

NB: antivirus software deactivates the EXCEL-EN-CHIMIO tool when copying from one machine to another. The assistance of Dr KRASSE is therefore necessary to reactivate it on your machine.

PRACTICAL WORKSHOP

Dr KRASSE tested the tool in front of the participants who asked questions and compared it with their experiences. The reactions were diverse but generally positive.

While awaiting the daily use of the EXCEL-EN-CHIMIO FOR CHILDREN tool before 2020 for some, Dr KRASSE is preparing the EXCEL-EN-CHIMIO FOR ADULTS tool and its Workshop in 2020.

The SIPO Workshop Afternoon November 2019 ended at 4:58 p.m.

We would like to thank the participants and all the people who made this workshop possible.
